Saint-Gervais: a great terroir, an ideal nest for wines with strong personalities

Created in 1924 by a group of winemakers, the Saint-Gervais cella has known three important periods. “1928, 1954 then 1960. Those years were marked by some different extensions. During the 70's, the average production exceeded 40 000 Hl.
In 1974, the winemakers obtain the Côtes-du-Rhône Villages designation. During the 2000's the Saint-Gervais cellar is aging and its investment capacity is reduced. The decision is taken “ Rather than die slowly, we chose to take the lead. We had all the assets: our designation, our location, our cellar, our wines quality. We just needed to find a modern and commercially dynamic winery.”

Le Cellier des Chartreux has been quickly chosen  “We met them and they quickly answered yes. A very intense dynamic began and in about 6 months it was done.”  The harvest of 2015 and 2016 have been vinified at Saint-Gervais and the 2017 millesimal has been elaborate at Pujaut. “ The Cellier des Chartreux enjoys advanced skills and equipment. Press for rosé and white wines, extraction for red wines... The Cellier des Chartreux is better equipped than us. For the Pujaut cellar it has been a real driver of growth and a extra credibility.”
In 2016, the Clan des Loups was born then in 2017 we created the white declension In the next months a new cuvée will arrive “ In a wooden case, this premium product have been aging in oak barrels during a year and have been made from our most beautiful plots: old vines, best hillsides, a low yield with around a hundred of hl on 3 to 4 hectares.”

A new nectar that will express all the peculiarity of the vineyard. « Our northern location provokes a stroger acidity in our wines structure. For the maturation, we have wines with more finess, lighter with a longer ending.”
Some concentrated, vibrant and intense wines with an extraordinary finesse. Come to visit the Cellier des Chartreux to please your palate!
